Eating the right foods, buying the ride clothes, and riding the right cars are all ways to incorporate a sustainable lifestyle. But what about the environment? Here are some ideas to make the environment more sustainable:
1. Use Renewable Energy- Using renewable energy means that you won't have to use fossil fuels. Fossil fuels release many pollutants and greenhouse gases into the environment. It is crucial to make sure our environment is as clean as possible. Renewable energy like solar or wind use natural sources to produce energy. You can also install solar panels on your roof of your house. The solar panels can power all of your lights and appliances on sunny days. 2. Reduce Waste in Landfills- All the waste that we throw out all end up in the landfill. Landfills pile up and get bigger every day. In order to reduce waste, you can buy only what you need and sell old clothes, toys, blankets, etc. You can also reuse things like jars, plastic bags, and newspaper. Doing all of these things can reduce waste going to landfills and improve the environment overall.

Sustainable activities are as important as traveling sustainably. Some sustainable activities include:
1. Exercise/ Sports- Sports are sustainable as it doesn't require fossil fuels or resources. It keeps you fit and improves physical health. It also doesn't cost any money, which is sustainable 2. Community Involvment- This activity is very sustainable, given the fact that a whole community gather to help the environment like planting trees, or helping reduce poverty or hunger by donating clothes and food. 3. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!- The three Rs are an example of another sustainable activity. Doing these three things at home can lead to s sustainable lifestyle in your home. Not only is it good for the environment, you are also helping your community become a more sustainable place. Living sustainably also means wearing sustainably. Things you can do are:
1. Only buy clothes when you need them- We always have enough clothes to wear. Buy new clothes only for special occasions such as weddings or parties. If your clothes don't fit or are out-dated, then donate them to places like Value Village or Salvation Army. 2. Choose your clothes wisely- When buying clothes, buy clothes that are comfortable and are durable. There is no need to buy expensive clothes that are not comfortable. 3. Taking care of your clothes- When washing clothes, use cold water and dry the clothes by hanging them. This method is not only sustainable, it helps you save money and energy. Eating and wearing sustainably is important, and so is transportation. Here are some tips on traveling sustainably:
1. Alternatives to Cars- Cars may be an efficient way to get around, but it is definitely not the most sustainable way. Public transportation like buses and subways are a more sustainable way to get to you destination. Walking or biking is another great way to travel. Not only does it give you exercise, it doesn't emit any type of pollutant that can harm the environment. 2. Carpooling- Carpooling still isn't very sustainable, but it means more people can get around without more than one car. One car already releases enough greenhouse gases into the air, but several cars that only hold one or two people is even worse! 3. Electric or Hybrid Cars- These cars are powered by electricity instead of gasoline, which is more sustainable. Although hybrid cars aren't fully powered by electricity, it's better than nothing. In order to live a sustainable life, you have to buy and eat the right food from the right place. Just follow these easy steps:
1. Buy fruits and vegetables from your local farmer's market- Eat local! Buy only what you need and not what you want. Shopping at farmers markets means you can easily find locally grown produce and meet the people who produce the food. 2. Growing your own garden- Growing your own fruits and vegetables means you don't have to worry about eating food that has pesticides. It is the most sustainable and cheapest way to eat. Also, growing your own food will save your money at the grocery store. So start growing! 3. Avoid packaged food- Refrain from buying foods that contain plastic packaging. The production of plastic uses a massive amount of fossil fuels and pollutes the environment. Plastic bottles is an example. Bring your own bottle instead of bringing bottled water from the supermarket. 4. Eat less meat- Making a sustainable lifestyle for yourself means eating less meat and animal products and more fruits and vegetables. Meat production is a huge contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Choosing to eat less meat can have a positive impact on the environment around you! |
